A Perfected Copycat Recipe

If you want a homemade answer to storebought Ritz Crackers, this is the one! Made with pantry staples you probably already own, there are just a couple of tricks to make the perfect Ritz copycat.

Here are all the ingredients you'll need to make these crackers. See the full post for substitutions.

First you'll mix up the dough--no mixer needed. Rub the fat into the dry ingredients, stir the corn syrup and water together, and add it to the dough.

After a rest in the fridge, roll out the dough, cut out crackers, poke the signature 7 holes in each cracker, and bake on a grid-type cooling rack.

Baking on a cooling rack allows the dough to bake evenly. Air can circulate around the tops and bottoms of the crackers cooking them more quickly with less chance of uneven browning.

After they're done, brush each one with melted butter-flavored Crisco or ghee. Then lightly sprinkle the whole tray with a bit of salt.

For the crispiest crackers possible, turn off the oven and let it cool to about 275F. Put the crackers back in the oven and let the residual heat dry them out. Perfection!
