Heart-Shaped Chocolate Honey Buns Recipe

pastrychefonline.com

Chocolate honey buns have four components: dough, filling, glaze, and ganache. They're perfect for Valentine's Day, but I also give the traditional shaping method for whenever the urge strikes!

The dough is easy to make. Mix all the ingredients on low speed. Increase speed to medium and knead for about 10 minutes.

When the dough passes the windowpane test, you'll know it's done!

Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size. Press out the gases and roll into a large rectangle. To make the dough easier to work with, lightly oil your hands.

Melt the filling ingredients together, whisk well, then refrigerate until spreadable. Roll out dough and spread filling out evenly top to bottom. Leave about 1/2" of space on either end.

To form the hearts, roll up like a scroll from either end. Cut off the very edges of the scroll and then cut into 6 or up to 12 slices.

Shape the scroll into hearts by placing them, rounded side towards the pan edge and pinching the other end into points.

Heat butter, salt, and honey  and then whisk in powdered sugar and a little water. Pour the glaze on while the buns are still hot to get a thin coat of honeybun glaze!

To really gild the lily and reinforce the chocolate flavor, whip up an easy honey chocolate ganache, cool it until it's thick, and then pipe chocolate hearts on each bun. So pretty and tasty!
