How to Make Butterscotch Coffee Syrup

PASTRYCHEFONLINE.COM

No need to spend $$ on storebought coffee syrups--or fancy coffeehouse coffee. Combine homemade butterscotch with simple syrup to make a delicious butterscotch coffee syrup for just pennies a serving!

First, make a simple syrup by combining equal parts of sugar and water, by weight. Bring to a boil, and then let cool to warm.

Now it's time to make homemade butterscotch. You'll need: butter, brown sugar, and salt.

1. Dissolve brown sugar in a little water. 2. Heat with butter and salt. 3. Bring to a boil. 4. Cook, stirring, until the butter browns and the sugar caramelizes.

Combine the butterscotch with the simple syrup and whisk until smooth. If you want, you can emulsify your sauce with an immersion blender, but you don't have to. Left is emulsified. Right is not.

Use 1 or 2 Tablespoons of syrup per cup of coffee. Store the rest in the fridge. Shake well before using. See the next slide for more butterscotch recipes!
