"Wet Bottom" Shoofly Pie

Shoofly pie is a "desperation pie." These pies are usually made solely with pantry staples. They're for making in the winter when there is little to no fresh fruit and you are desparate for pie!

Here's what you'll need to make this easy pie recipe. See the next slide for amounts.

9" pie shell, frozen 1 c flour            1 c brown sugar 3 Tbsp butter    3/4 c molasses 1/2 c hot water 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt             1 egg

Ingredients

The pie is made in 3 parts: >crust (or buy one) >streusel (flour, sugar, butter) >filling (molasses, hot water, baking soda, sugar, egg)

Line pie pan with crust and freeze. Whisk flour and brown sugar together and then cut in butter. Whisk together all filling ingredients.

Layer in streusel and filling alternately, finishing with a thick layer of streusel. Bake at 400F for 15 minutes and then for about 30 minutes at 350F. Serve barely warm with whipped cream.
