The Best Creamy Mac & Cheese Recipe
This mac & cheese recipe has become many readers' favorite, and for good reason. Made on the stove and finished in the oven, it's hard to beat the spicing and cheesy, creamy goodness.
The recipe has 3 parts: spiced bechamel sauce cheese pasta and an alternate 4th part: toppings
pasta butter salt pepper mustard turmeric paprika onion & garlic powder flour milk cream cheese sour cream Lots of cheese!
Choose your pasta shape. I like cavatappi. Boil pasta for about half the time called for on the package. You want it to still be very firm. It will finsih cooking in the oven.
Melt butter and add spices. Let sizzle for a few seconds. Add the flour and cook for a minute or two. Add milk, and bring to a boil to thicken. You have just made a spiced bechamel.
Stir in sour cream, cream cheese, and the grated cheeses. Now you have a spiced mornay sauce. Stir in pasta and a little of the cooking water. Pour into a baking dish, top as desired, and bake.
