A couple of months ago, a dear friend who runs an excellent blog said self-deprecatingly on facebook that her blog would never make a Top Ten List. I nodded and smiled because I sometimes feel the same way about my blog, but then I realized that I could compile my very own list!
For my first post of the year, I want to feature some blogs and bloggers who inspire me. Bloggers who might not have readerships in the hundreds of thousands or even tens of thousands. But blogs that I will continue to visit because I love their voice, their passion, their sense of humor, their heart.
It is my hope that some of you will make some new friends today. And if you have a blog and would like to post about some of your favorite blogs, please feel free to link up using the Linky Tool below. It will be open through the end of January.
This type of post will definitely be something that I incorporate into my posting schedule. As bloggers, we should all try to celebrate each other. And I also want to introduce my readers to fun new folks!
And so without further ado, I present to you a sampling of some bloggers I really love and blogs that I really enjoy reading.
Rebecca of Chow and Chatter
I just love Rebecca. She is one of the most genuine and helpful bloggers out there. She’s a registered dietician and a social media maven, complete with her own iphone recipe app. Plus, she’s a devoted mom to two of the cutest kids you’ll ever see.
Katherine of Eggton
I love a good story well told. And that’s what I get when I visit Eggton. Katherine used to be a lawyer in Manhattan. Now she writes Humorously from Alabama. I’m assuming she was Humorous before she moved south, but I don’t really know.
Anyway, Katherine can tell a great story. She can make a great video. She keeps stirring when croutons accidentally fall into her eggs (plus limericks). She writes poems. Friends, go say hi.
Cheryl of Pook’s Pantry
Sometimes, you meet someone and you feel like they’re your long lost sibling. And that’s what I felt when I met Cheryl on twitter just a few months ago. We are eerily similar, but if that alone is not reason enough to visit, let me tell you a little about her. She dreams in Spanish and has done Very Cool Stuff like the catering for Fashion Week.
Stacy of Food Lust People Love
This is the first of Stacy’s posts I ever read. And I keep coming back. And now we’re buddies on facebook, too. Stacy lives everywhere. When I first met her, she was in Cairo. As in Egypt. Now, she lives in Dubai. Because: why not?
I love her writing (see the first post of hers that I read) and her thoughtful approach to food (and to living life as an expat). And her love of cookbooks. And the idea that we love people but we lust after food. I think it’s an important distinction.
Shane of Grilled Shane
You know how when something good happens to someone and you say, “It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person!”? Well, that’s Shane. I’m not sure how or when I first met him, but Shane has a great niche blog devoted to the art of the vegetarian grilled cheese sammich.
He’s a great person; he has been coming up with great combinations of flavors for forever, and last year, he got a book deal! His book, Melt: 100 Amazing Adventures in Grilled Cheese came out in the fall. Yay, Shane! If you haven’t met him, you really should go check him out!
Christina of The Scrappy Housewife
Looking for Real, for Honesty, for Integrity? Look no further than The Scrappy Housewife. I met her on facebook not terribly long ago, and I just love her.
Christina lets us in to her life. The finished and unfinished. Her place is a comfortable place, and I think you’ll be comfortable there, too.
Sara of My Imperfect Kitchen
When you go to visit a place called My Imperfect Kitchen, you don’t expect Perfect. That’s what Pinterest is for. But Sara is pretty perfect at being imperfect. This is a compliment.
Lynne from 365 Days of Baking
Back in January of 2011, Lynne decided she’d bake something every single day. And blog about it. Well, sometimes life gets in the way, so she finished her 365 Days of Baking on March 9 of 2012. What wonderful craziness!
Lynne is kind and generous and has such a warm and welcoming manner and facebook page. I think she is Just Grand. And, even almost a year after finishing her project, she’s still baking and sharing, simply because she loves it. And that’s simply the best reason of all.
And that’s my first roundup of folks who inspire me. If you have written a similar post (or you’re going to at some point this month), please feel free to link up. Thank you so much!
Have a lovely day and a wonderful 2013, my friends!
