Shameless Wedding Cake Teaser

Just look at all that potential energy.

Welcome to Appliancedome. Two mixers enter. One mixer leaves.

Here it is.  The calm before the storm.  And here are the players:

See that container of cocoa powder hiding in the back? I'll be going through TWO of those guys.

See that container of cocoa powder hiding in the back? I'll be going through TWO of those guys. Oh, the onions and garlic aren't actually playing a part in this production. They're just being supportive. Thanks, guys.

I decided to sub one pound of shortening for one pound of butter, just to keep things from getting out-of-hand melty should Something Traumatic occur.

I decided to sub one pound of shortening for one pound of butter, just to keep things from getting out-of-hand melty should Something Traumatic occur.

So, it begins.

Oh, and one last shot, in honor of my American Idol and my best-friend-I’ve-never-met, Linda.  I had toyed with the notion of purchasing and applying black nail polish in honor of The Glambert, but Linda told me I should just use chocolate.  Here’s the compromise:  a dark brown nail polish called Hot for Chocolate.  Besides, Adam is a Winter, and I’m more of a Spring.

Don't worry. I'll take it off before the baking starts. Nail polish in the kitchen is sacreligious. And kind of gross.

And now, I leave you to bake and bake and bake.  I’ll post all about Wedding Cake Wonders (hopefully) on Tuesday.  Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone.  And here, listen to my Adam.  Here is the magic of Glambert:  my 75 year old mother and I will be attending the American Idol concert in August in Charlotte because we both think he’s dreamy.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyyESHqT9a4&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b]

That looks like a precursor to a mass amount of baking.

May the force be with you!

Love the nail polish! As someone who just finished a wedding cake (and several other specialty cakes this past week) I know what kind of week you’re in for! I know it will be tasty and beautiful. Can’t wait to see pics! What a great way to mess up your new kitchen! I want my Adam!!!!!

I have a graduation cake for 100 (french vanilla with raspberry filling) next weekend and a wedding cake in August.

Cakes in the summer are always a challenge because we don’t have a/c and Maine summers can get quite warm (ie. HOT) and humid.

I sometimes make the cakes from scratch. But when I do I charge BIG MONEY becuase they are A.) mucho worko and B.) not always predictable.

I know I’ll push a post out of you with this (Groovy gives an evil grin) but I make my cakes with store bought cake mix. I NEVER use white – too dry. I use French vanilla (assuming a white cake is desired) and I flavor my buttercream with almond extract. It keeps ‘em coming back to me again and again and again!

Can’t wait to see the pics of yours!

Looks like your blog audience can be a tough crowd to satisfy! Best of luck with your wedding cake. Me? I’m going to make my gazillionth chocolate stout cake this weekend because why stop now, right?

Have fun making the cake and have a great weekend! Can’t wait to to see the pictures!

Oooooh! I love weddings looking at wedding cakes (one of my fave ‘picture’ books is on Colette Peters’ nuptial creations) so I can’t wait to see what this looks like. I have mixer envy even though I have no use for two when my single one rarely sees any action.

I was going to make a birthday cake for myself this week but will have to see if I have time as I’m starting summer classes on Tuesday. I did make (and post) a flan cake although the chiffon cake part wasn’t quite as nice as I’d hope. In my defense, it was my first sponge cake of any kind.

Dueling mixers, I love it. I’m sure the cakes turned out great. Can’t wait to see the pics.

I kind of freaked out when I saw the nail polish…but now I understand…tell my kids in class…hygeine while cooking lecture, so you really scared me!

I am with you 100%, Chef E–nail polish in the kitchen is Gross. I never wear it, ever (except for on my toesies), but my boy Adam deserved the support! It came off before the Baking Commenced, though. Glad you’re back:)

You know, I was *this* close to buying tickets for the AI concert in Charlotte but decided against it. It’s just more money (for three of us) than I want to turn loose right now. Let me live vicariously through you, OK?

Can’t wait to hear the results. I’ve been thinking about getting a bigger mixer and can’t decide on which one.

Melting cake is my biggest fear and outdoor summertime weddings love melting cakes!

Love the hot for chocolate polish – gets you in the mindset for giant chocolate cake!
